When Harriet met George

George Clooney When a girl gets offered the chance to spend some time with George Clooney in a 5 star hotel room in London I imagine most would agree it's time well spent. A 3 star one, though, and it might be a different answer. We have our standards, right?

Leatherheads is the brilliant new romantic comedy directed by and starring Gorgeous George and Renee Zellweger. It's a cute film about football in 1920s America. So think lots of fit guys and fabulous outfits for Renee to swan around in whilst delivering her punchy one liners.

I've met Renee a few times now as she's been on the show talking about Miss Potter and of course the infamous Miss Bridget Jones. It was a good thing we were on slightly familiar territory as we had a minor technical problem at the start of our interview at the Dorchester (no working microphone) so we chatted about the size of her coffee cup whilst producer JP went to rectify this rather important oversight.

She may be only a wee thing anyway but I have never seen a tall coffee quite as tall in anyone's hands as in hers. So this is what I told her. Ten minutes in a room with a movie star and this is what I talk about. I know. I know. Turns out she has quite an interesting story about it being in fact 2 cups molded in to one and she's telling me all about where the coffee starts and where the foam ends and just then, right when you need him the most, JP returns triumphant.

Renee plays a reporter in Leatherheads and we talk about whether she liked being the one asking the questions for a change. She reckons its great being the one in charge of the questions because then you can spend time getting them perfect. I'm thinking, she obviously hasn't heard the show. Naturally we talk about kissing George Clooney, her getting in to trouble for trying to play football in between takes, and how she manages to go incognito in London.

Harriet Scott Renee Zellweger really is the cutest person in the world. Dressed in a killer Little Black Dress, she's so polite you want to hug her. We know she's famously good friends with George so when I get up to leave she gives me a teasing smile and says, "So you're going to have a little chat with Jorge now?" It takes me a moment to realise she's talking about Clooney. "Yes", I say, embarrassed that I'm already blushing and looking too keen to meet my next guest.

Good luck" she whispers, smiling knowingly at me. I think I'm going to need it.

Normally in these junket situations, the star is already ensconced firmly in their chair before you come in to the room but my first encounter with George Clooney is when he rushes up to the door in front of the movie company person shouting that the interview's off. This is, I realise a second later, a joke. Thank God.

So we know George is handsome, we've seen the pictures. But honestly, close up, he's GORGEOUS. And he's friendly, charming and funny too. Apart from the one about the interview being off.

He shakes my hand. I wanted a kiss but I thought it was too predictable to go for the lunge and too forward to start taking his clothes off. We settle ourselves in to our chairs and he looks at me expectantly with those big brown eyes, politely waiting for my first question. Naturally I can't remember what the hell it is. I don't even remember who I am anymore. This is a problem as we don't have long so I tell myself this is ridiculous. I have done this many times before with the likes of Hugh Grant, Will Smith and Peter Andre. But there really is something about George. He has that kind of easy, charming banter that us girlies love. I think it probably helps he wasn't hit with the ugly stick when he was a kid either.

So enough, I'm now embarrassing myself and annoying my boyfriend. Suffice to say we had a chat, we shared a laugh. I like to think I had my moment with Jorge. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
