Sex Movie Dominates Box Office

Sex and the City knocked Indiana Jones off the top of the US box office over the weekend.

The movie - based on the groundbreaking TV series of the same name - was also the top choice for cinemagoers in Britain and Germany.

In the United States and Canada, the film earned $55.7 million during its first three days – insiders were only planning for a $25 million to $35 million debut.

The three-day haul ranks as the biggest R-rated comedy opening of all time in the US – that’s like their version of an 18 certificate - beating the $45.1 million bow of American Pie in 1999.

Hollywood bosses said women made up 85 per cent of the audience on Friday night.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull slipped to number two in the chart with $46 million.

It’s not all bad news for Indy though. The film has now taken $482.8 million worldwide.

That means it’s already on track to beat the biggest film this summer so far, Iron Man which has pulled in $520 million worldwide so far.
