Week 6
Check out what how your baby is developing this week: -
- The embryo is growing rapidly and beginning to look tadpoley. The tadpole tail will eventually shrink and the remnants become the baby's coccyx.
- In the centre of the embryo is the start of the digestive system, lungs and bladder. This is surrounded by a layer that will develop into muscles, skeleton, heart, kidneys and genitals, and this is wrapped up in what will become the skin, nervous system, ears and eyes.
- Tiny bumps are appearing that will grow into arms.
- The immature heart starts to beat and pump blood around the embryo and into the chronicvilli (the pre-placenta) and can be clearly seen as a pulsation on an ultrasound screen. Really, the whole thing looks like some tiny thing that might come out if you sneezed.
