Week 5
Check out what how your baby is developing this week: -
- The embryo is still very tiny but starting to form into a tube shape and growing very quickly.
- The head and tail ends become obvious.
- The heart and blood vessels are only just starting to form so the embryo doesn't have its independent circulation yet.
- At this stage the placenta consists of lots of 'tentacles' called chorionic villi. Eventually they will grow into the big, temporary organ that runs the exchange between you and your developing baby, which send in nutrients and oxygen and takes out waste products and carbon dioxide, using the vein and two arteries in the umbilical cord that connects it to the baby.
