The Perfect ProfileHands

By Lauren Pritchard-Gordon

Why is it that when we’re asked to write about ourselves, the words just seem to disappear? Don’t panic, we can help you with our guidelines for making sure your profile hits the right spot first time.

Be positive
Remember to sell yourself. Identify what your strengths are and explain why the person reading your profile should want to date you. Ask friends and family what they like most about you. Then re-read what you’ve written and ask yourself if you would want to go on a date with you.

Be honest
There’s no point in building up an unrealistic picture of yourself and creating an image you can’t live up to. Relax, paint the true picture, emphasising the positive.

Bring your profile to life with examples
It’s easy to say ‘I’ve got a great sense of humour’ but why not put in a witty line or two? Likewise, it’s easy to write ‘I’m the adventurous type’, try explaining what you’ve done that makes you such an action seeker? Paint a colourful picture of yourself rather than a black and white one.

Ready for love? Join now, with over 3 million singles, the love of your life could be waiting…

Don’t be afraid to deviate from the norm
Why not write something a bit different from the usual name, occupation, town where you live, and so on? Try comparing yourself to something, e.g. an animal/car/plant. Perhaps tell an interesting life story and leave the ending out to entice them to email you about it. Use your imagination and get them hooked.

Avoid negativity
Try not to focus on negative past experiences. Don’t shut the dating door on your reader before you’ve met them!

Avoid repetition
Remember, there’s no need to write vital stats in the main body of your profile as you will have already given them in the drop down boxes.

That three letter word
There’s no need to openly talk about ‘sex’ in your profile, this will actually put most people off as it’s too forward too soon. The time to mention sex is not in a ‘snapshot’ profile. Remember, the people reading your profile are strangers until you’ve met them.

Take your time
Take care over your profile, one which is well thought out makes a far better first impression. Remember, your profile reflects not only who you are but also your attitude to life and love.

End with a bang not a whimper
Open the door for your reader at the end of your profile. A small kiss is a nice touch, as is an invitation to reply. Don’t automatically assume they won’t like you and finish by wishing them luck to find someone else, they’re reading your profile aren’t they?
