Top Five Adult Albums

James Blunt Lost SoulsJames Blunt – All The Lost Souls

There’s no doubt about it James Blunt is incredibly talented musician.  This is the long awaited follow up to the multi million selling ‘Back To Bedlam’ and fans of the first album won’t be disappointed.  It’s a little less obvious – whereas ‘Back to Bedlam’ produced 4 huge singles this album is more subtle and takes a few listens for the album to get under ones skin.  ‘1973’ is his ode to the club called ‘Pacha’ in Ibiza and is more upbeat than his usual material and ‘Carry You Home’ is a classic James Blunt love song.  Definitely worth a listen.

Michael Buble Call Me IrresponsibleMichael Buble – Call Me Irresponsible

Michael Buble is no stranger to the Heart playlist with his first single ‘Home’ still one of the most popular songs on the station.  ‘Call Me Irresponsible’ builds nicely upon his other albums as he creates his own take on classics such as Billy Paul’s ‘Me and Mrs Jones’ and Eric Clapton’s ‘Wonderful Tonight’ alongside his original songs ‘Lost’ and ‘Everything’.  He is a class act and if you ever get the chance to see him live these songs sound ever better.

SATC SoundtrackSex and The City - Soundtrack

At first glance you might not know too many of these songs on this album – but if you’ve seen the film and are looking to get a fix of New York then this is the album for you.  One of the many things that made Sex and the City work so well was the music and this album continues the theme.  "Labels of Love" by Fergie updates the classic theme song and "All Dressed in Love" is the closing song, sung by Jennifer Hudson and "How Deep is Your Love" by The Bird & the Bee is an excellent remake of the classic Bee Gees song.  There’s a remix of Run DMC’s "Walk This Way” which Carrie uses to great affect in the movie.  This is certainly one of the soundtracks of the year.

Coldplay Viva La VidaColdplay – Viva La Vida

Arguably one of the biggest bands in the world today Coldplay make a return that follows up their X&Y album from 3 years ago. If you’ve previously bought any of their previous material then you certainly won’t be disappointed as all the hallmarks of this band that have made them what they are today are present - soaring guitars, big choruses and catchy piano – but Viva La Vida does depart from the band’s usual formula – there are a few instrumental and almost experimental songs included that do sound a little out of place but overall this is certainly worth checking out.

Neil Diamond Home Before DarkNeil Diamond – Home before dark

A ‘back to basics’ approach to this album has made it one of Neil Diamond's most successful in his  forty year career.  If you’re looking for anthems like ‘Sweet Caroline’ and ‘Song Sung Blue’ you’ll be disappointed.  Instead you get a much understated almost minimal sound that simply brings out his remarkable voice and outstanding lyrics. You might not be humming every tune on first listen but the sheer quality behind this album makes this a worthwhile listen.
