Even if you’ve never heard of nine-piece soul act Rose Royce before, you definitely know their songs. They were huge favourites on the 70s disco scene and their records have been pulled out at every wedding and Ann Summers party ever since!
They were put together as a backing band for singers on the Motown label, but execs soon realised they were great musicians in their own right and started to give them an opportunity to make something of themselves. So they hired singer Rose Norwalt and the rest is history.
The band was propelled to fame with its soundtrack to hit movie Car Wash. And then Norwalt and co had a string of hit singles, like I Wanna Get Next To You and Love Don’t Live Here Any More. These days the band is better known for really popular stage shows rather than hit singles. Their sell-out tours come complete with fireworks and disco dancers, and the Car Wash theme tune is a mobile ringtone best seller, keeping the disco greats out of retirement for some time to come!
