Streisand is a superstar that has turned her hand to theatre, composing, singing, directing and producing, scooping a whole sideboard’s worth of awards along the way!
In 1962 she first appeared on Broadway, playing a small but star-making role in the musical I Can Get It for You Wholesale. She also signed her first recording contract that year with her debut album, The Barbra Streisand Album, going on to win two Grammy Awards in 1963. Her recording success continued, and at one time, Streisand's first three albums Rock n Roll from The Beatles and Stones was sweeping the charts.
Barbra then went into acting, appearing in Funny Girl (1968), Hello Dolly (1969) and The Way We Were (1973), to name but a few. During that time, Barbra was also on the television a lot, turning up in shows such as the Judy Garland Show and even hosting her own called My Name Is Barbra.
During the 70s she was big in the pop charts, and dueted with Donna Summer on No More Tears.
Barbra is an active supporter of the US Democratic Party, campaigning against global warming, supporting gun control, helping Hurricane Katrina victims and questioning the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
