Destiny’s Child were formed in 1990 when Beyonce and LaTivia were just nine years old. Beyonce’s father, Matthew Knowles, had a vision to develop a singing/rapping girl group, and due to her father’s involvement, Beyonce was always the leader of the group. She has since gone on to become a successful solo artist.

They produced just three studio albums between 1998 and 2005, but had four US number one hit singles and are the only US girl group to top the UK chart twice. At the height of their fame Mattel released Destiny's Child Barbie Collector Dolls.

The band's frequent line-up changes led to a Saturday Night Live comedy sketch involving a spoof group called Gemini's Twin. Gemini’s Twin had two core singers and a third rotating spot which would be filled by whoever was hosting the show!

When Destiny's Child agreed to go on the show in May 2001 they jokingly called themselves a rival band Serendipity's Coincidence.

Beyonce won a BRIT and four Grammy awards in 2004 and the trio performed at the US Live 8 concert in 2005, splitting later that year to concentrate on their solo careers.
