Chasing Pavements (Part 2!)

Checked the calendar over the weekend (my 2007 Kylie has long since been replaced by Mrs G’s new 2008 Take That, by the way!) There are now less than 10 weeks to go to this year’s London Marathon. Seems frighteningly close. But at least the legs are so far bearing up. This time last year I wasn’t even able to run. And walking wasn’t that much prettier either.

Doing lots of training near our new place on the edge of Maidenhead. I’m discovering some gorgeous countryside around Cookham, Marlow & Henley. It’s almost a pleasure doing the long jogs. Almost – I wouldn’t want to get too carried away here. After all, it does all boil down to getting knackered, achy-limbed & sore-nippled while running in a big circle for about two hours. Woo-hoo!

My fellow runners appear to be a very friendly bunch – you get a little nod & smile of acknowledgement as you pass each other. It’s like being a member of some exclusive lycra-toting, pavement-pounding club. Although, with my ever-reddening face & erratic breathing I can’t help feeling that some of these other runners have been smiling at me more out of sympathy and pity than through some kind of mutual athletic appreciation.

On the plus side, all this training does give you a ravenous appetite. And of course today is Pancake Day. Bring it on!! So I’m looking forward to a guilt-free leaning tower of pancake tonight, happy in the knowledge that the consequent mountain of calories will be burnt off to a cinder by this time tomorrow.

Now, where’s the maple syrup……

More soon

Big love

Gx
