Nearly burnt down my brand new kitchen!

So all the units are in, wooden surfaces all stained, gas hob and oven connected, fridge freezer all working nicely. Basically the kitchen "went live" after I got back from Heart on Saturday lunchtime. Very exciting. You know what it's like when you have to go without a cooker and a sink to wash up in for a few days. Completely throws you out of kilter. Anyway, yesterday afternoon, I suggested we christened it with a roast. Popped to Sainsbury to get all the bits in. Came back, opened a bottle of chilled wine from the "new" fridge, and turned the oven on. So far so good.

Both kicked back in the front room watching back Guilty Pleasures which we'd Sky Plussed on Saturday night. Good fun wasn't it? Kelly Osbourne was a bit off-key though when she did " Total Eclipse of the Heart" (can't stand that song for some reason anyway).

Suddenly I smelt burning coming from the kitchen. Not food burning, I was just waiting for the oven to heat up. But you know that kind of electric-y smell.....that. O opened the oven, and the Operating Manual and Guarantee booklet were on the tray, starting to singe at the edges!

How stupid am I?  Forgot to take them out. To be honest, didn't even know they were in there. Just whacked the oven straight on to 200 C, and that was it.

And the moral of the story is... if you can't find the instruction booklet, check in the oven before you cook!

Oh blimey, I've just realised I didn't check where the booklet is for the new freezer either. That'll be frozen then!
