A friend of mine Paul had me in stitches earlier. A handful of us sat outside the very quaint and chilled out Anglesea Arms in W6. It's a nice, quiet and relaxed gastro pub with delish food, good beer and wine, and seats outside. I'd definitely recommend it.
Anyway, we got talking about work and stuff. YAWN! Johnny boy always starts going on about work. We've told him but he never listens. So he's chatting about some big deal he's about to land, and Paul leaps in and goes " Yea, Jimmy Hill, " and strokes his chin. I think I was 12 when I last heard someone say that. In the school playground probably. So funny. Just hearing that expression again, suggesting John was lying. Purile yet genius at the same time.
There must be loads of other sayings like that from school. Oh yes, remember getting "Nicky Rush" when you first puffed on a ciggie? Your first Silk Cut or Superkings? Yuk. Those things were so strong. And Marlboro, and Rothmans. Sore throat city after one of those. This of course was well back in the day, I don't smoke now. But that "rush" when it went a bit to your head. "Nicky Rush", as in nicotine rush.
Going to the "pictures" now that's one I never hear anyone saying anymore. If they did, they'd probably mean the "pictures" in an art gallery, not the movies.
Please email me here with any you remember. This kind of thing always makes me laugh.
