What a lovely warm weekend it turned out to be. It's been long overdue. How long have we all waited to get some sun on our faces, and that feel good factor injected into our lives. Even Boris getting voted in as London Mayor, whoever you stuck your cross by last week, it just feels really good to have a bit of change around the place. It makes you sit down and ponder life.
Me, my twin sister Kate and brother-in-law Chris all sat by the river in Windsor yesterday evening, dipping prawns into sweet chilli sauce, drinking nice cold wine, watching the world go by, chatting about life; one of those moments. I love them. Talking about what we all still wanted to do or achieve, what places we'd all like to visit...... I think we all have those thoughtful, soul searching chats from time to time, and they're always very satisfying. Even if you always say you're going to do something, or spin off and do something completely different with your life, it's amazing how most of us don't, but simply feel better for chatting about it and feeling like it's all possible. Only a small number of people can or do just give up the job or life they have and go round the world or whatever.
My sister did, but a long time ago, and she's got a much healthier approach to life than me. She left college at 18, and went off to Australia. She met a New Zealander chappie, ended up living and working there for 4 years. I missed her massively, but she came back a changed person, and for the better. When you've had to work out of your comfort zone, it's hard, but i'm certain you end up better and mentally cleansed for it. Whereas I went off to uni at the same time she went down under, graduated, got a job, then the BBC, finally got my dream job working on music radio on Heart. I worked hard, had some luck along the way, but never really stepped out of my comfort zone. And in some respects I wish I had or would, but maybe I don't have that "risk taker" thing inside to motivate me. Some do, some don't. Who knows.
I have just bought a lawn mower and taken up golf, (oh god) so maybe not the best time to go travelling!
