So last night, Summer Strallen took over the role of Maria in The Sound of Music at The Palladium theatre. My mum was a big fan of the ‘Any Dream will do’ show where Connie Fisher landed the role as Maria, unfortunately I couldn’t get her tickets to see Connie, but last night as a slightly belated Mother’s Day treat, we went to see the show. It was Summer’s debut and there was a real buzz in the crowd.
Just to explain – Summer had a short stint in Hollyoaks before her role as Maria and Lord of the theatre, Sir Andrew himself even made a cameo in the Chester soap, as part, I think of a very clever PR stunt to get people talking about Summer!! She did the hype justice for sure and her Hollyoaks cast members filled the row behind us, all looking very glam and all extremely heavily scented in an array of potent aftershaves and perfumes!! My mum was more excited about seeing Bonnie Langford and Elaine Paige than the Hollyoaks crew though…
Summer was sensational – and if you’ve been wondering whether the classic film will transfer onto the stage, it does just that. The Palladium has its magnificent moving stage which looks very impressive for the ‘Climb Ever Mountain’ number and the whole set was inspired – although I was a little disappointed with Captain Von Trapp’s double-breasted suit and he didn’t really scare me as much as Christopher Plummer. Still, Summer is a lovely Maria, she’ll draw you in, and instantly showed a rapport with the Von Trapp children who were all great... yes I even had a little lump in my throat at one point. Go see if you can.
Now – something completely different, which you may or may not be completely caught up in... is Heroes. Series 2 is making its way to our screens soon, I promise. I’ve been fortunate to already see some of it and it doesn’t disappoint. Imagine my surprise however on bumping into one of the cast members on Sunday – in Kilburn!
Jimmy Jean Lewis who plays The Haitian just happened to be hanging out and promoting his new film and I just happened to catch up with him. I have to confess I was slightly in awe – not only because he’s in one of my favourite TV programmes ever, but also because, ladies, he is utterly gorgeous! Jimmy revealed some exciting developments in Heroes as well as admitting his choice of hero power. To have a listen to my exclusive interview click here.
