Last weekend I got the best present. A friend of mine won a shedload of games on a raffle for a PS2. Unfortunately for him, he doesn’t own a Playstation - so knowing I do he gave them to me. Bonus!
I’ve never been a huge consoles person. I was always the school kid who wanted to go round to my friend’s house for tea just so I could play on their Nintendo (or Batman on their parents’ Amstrad - now that’s retro!!). I never had one growing up myself, mainly because I had a very low attention span and got bored easily.
I was given a Playstation 2 as a present a few years ago. I like using it now and again but I’m not the kind of person to spill my coffee in excitement when I find out that the new Mario game has just been released. Consequently most of the games I have for it are pretty old. So, when my friend offloaded half a dozen games on me recently I was quite happy to have a play.
One of the games was Singstar 90s. I’d heard about the Singstar games before but never played one. If you’re not aware - they are karaoke for the home, you sing along to some fantastic tunes and the machine gives you a score based on your tone and pitch. It’s AMAZING!
Normally karaoke is a pastime I’d engage in after a few glasses of wine and after all my friends had ‘gone first’. On Tuesday I found myself belting out Mmm mmm mmm by the Crash Test Dummies at five past ten in the morning!! You may like to know I scored a fairly average 4500 points and was classified as a ‘Wannabe’.
It’s now compulsory that anyone who visits my flat has to join me for a ‘battle’ on either Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn’ or ‘Love Is All Around’ by Wet Wet Wet.
If you know someone with a Playstation or a Wii - get Singstar for them as a present and insist on playing it with them. You’ll have a great time!
